MG&L FAQ's

Is MG&L's Gunsmith formally trained and educated?

YES!  Our certified / formally trained Gunsmith offers far more than basic parts installation or simple repairs. Professional Gunsmiths are trained in firearm mechanics, safety, tolerances, and diagnostic procedures, allowing them to correctly identify and fix problems.  Unlike someone in a gun shop who only knows basic disassembly and screwdriver work, a trained Gunsmith understands firearm precision and safety requirements.  Improper work can cause serious malfunctions or injury.

Experience, Education & Certifications

  • 23-year USMC Ret.
  • 12 Month Apprenticeship with Master Gunsmith
  • Graduate of the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School
  • Honor Student of the Master Gunsmithing Program
  • Armorer Certified for the AR-15 Platform, Glock and Smith & Wesson
  • Certified in Firearms Appraisal

What type of firearms does MG&L work on?

It may be easier to identify what we do NOT work on:

  • No AOW's
  • No 80% builds
  • No Class III / NFA guns

I purchased a firearm on the web, can I have it sent to MG&L for transfer?

Yes, MG&L is licensed to purchase, sell and transfer firearms.  Please contact us so we can send a copy of our FFL to the shipping dealer and to arrange for receipt of the firearm.  The transfer / PICS background check fee for this service is $35 per firearm.

How long will it take for my firearm to be repaired?

MG&L WILL NOT rush repairs, and we do our best to complete work in the order it arrives.  Please be aware that parts for older and obsolete guns can take time to find as many are no longer manufactured.  A timeline for in depth repairs, restorations and custom builds can be discussed during your visit based on the condition of your firearm and MG&L's workload at that time.

When should I Make an appointment to bring my firearm in for repairs?

Great question!  Appointments can be called in anytime. But when should that appointment be? Pennsylvania hunting season is a busy time for MG&L.  However, if you want to be sure your gun is serviced and returned to you prior to season start, you should plan to use the early summer months wisely.  February through July are often overlooked when preparing for the years hunt.  These are ideal months to bring your firearm in for servicing.  But remember to call for an appointment.

Firearms bRought into MG&L for gunsmithing

All firearms brought into MG&L for gunsmithing service should ALWAYS:

  • Be unloaded
  • Have actions open (showing clear)
  • Have safeties on (if applicable)

If live ammunition is stuck / jammed in a firearm, within the magazine chamber or otherwise, be sure to inform us immediately!

Which payment methods does MG&L accept?

MG&L accepts Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and AmEx

MG&L DOES NOT ACCEPT CHECKS

MG&L does not provide cost quotes or estimates over the phone.  It would be impossible to evaluate and determine costs without having seen your firearm.  Only after a thorough in-person bench evaluation can a cost be determined.

Does MG&L offer gift cards / certificates?

YES!!  MG&L offers gift certificates for all occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc., in the amount of your choosing (starting at $25).  Good towards any provided Gunsmith services (retail excluded).  Gift certificates valid for 2 years from date of purchase.

What services does MG&L offer?

There are so many aspects to gunsmithing.  While we are not equipped for EVERYTHING, we aim to be a full service shop.  Give us a call if you require detailed information.

MG&L also provides lathe and milling machine services for "one-off" non-firearm projects.
